Tuesday 10 November 2020

The first part of our morning drive down south proved to be fairly productive.
First up was wonderful journey of giraffe in-between Sitsas and Craig Lockhart.

We first noticed them to the right up on the dunes,

And, then in the riverbed, in glorious sunlight on the left.

We stayed and watched them for a while before carrying on.

The loops around Dalkieth and 14th Borehole were quiet, but just after exiting the second loop, we came across a small traffic jam.
A Cape Fox den next to the road.

The mother had caught a mouse and was showing some of her cubs what to do with it.
It made for some entertaining viewing.

But besides that, the cuteness factor was over the top

Eventually they disappeared into their burrows for the day, and we carried on

The Spotted Eagle Owls we had seen earlier on the trip just before the entrance to the 13th borehole loop were still there.

It never stops surprising me to see giraffes in the desert. They are not called kameelperd for nothing ;-)

The fox cubs are super cute [InLuv]

There is an active swallow tailed bee eater nest in the side wall of the road about a kilometre before the Kamqua picnic spot which caused many a traffic jam while we were in the park.

This morning it was our turn to get to see a bit of the action as the parents flew in and out of the nest with morsels to eat for their offspring.

We had a lot of fun trying to get photos of the birds, and ended up with a lot of pics of an empty hole

This giraffe was keeping an eye on us

We wanted to carry on down to as far as Kamfersboom, and after stopping for a break at Auchterlonie , we came upon these meercats foraging on the side of the road.

They were also joined by a few crimson breasted shrikes.
