Addo Buffalo Population

Genetic bottlenecks and inbreeding in the Addo buffalo population is a problem. I suspect the SA model of fenced small reserves with trapped small populations will have these problems in many apecies after several generations and it is an understudied and neglegted aspect when it comes to the policy of fenced reserves. Managing this is likely very costly.

Yes the Buff at Addo dont have the 'Normal' Deep swept horns of the Lowveld/Matestsi Zim Buff ..>> to be expected from their insistance to use Disease free (Zoo Stock????) to start the herd originally
