That first night in the park is always pure bliss
And, yeah, it's also always a very early night because one it totally knackered from the flight and all the running around while shopping.
Lovely birds

Wonderful selections, Pumbaa!
It is lovely the various animals in the green, to repeat!
I love the impala shots, it feels like a live safari as Mello says!
I wish you would put up food pics!

Re: Stories from Tar Roads and From Spots
Not far we then discovered a paradise whydah also on the ground for us better than on a branch

as this bird is in fact normally not sitting long and still enough for descent shots but when they are on the ground we always do have more luck in photographing them.

A couple of kudu ladies could be seen between a couple of bushes

and one waited patiently for the other who crossed the road finally behind our car.

Due to the heavy rain earlier and during the night we did not drive the Steilberg road although same was open and instead checked out whether our leopard lady from yesterday maybe is around again but she was not lying on the dead tree from yesterday and we also could not discover her anywhere else so we continued but it got extreme quiet and when we reached the tar road we noticed that also today the S114 was closed so we prepared ourselves already that we have to reach our next camp, Crocodile Bridge, today only via the tar roads. As a small compensation we detected a beautiful martial eagle in a tree close to the road

who most willingly posed for us.

At least same was interested in the strange click noise which the camera button made

Timon fired happily away and the raptor nearly did not move so we got lots of more than brilliant shots before we continued

only to stop again for impalas in the greenery

and a bit later for another family of ground hornbills on the ground

again with a juvenile one between them and we were surprised to see nearly in each family of ground hornbills we met this year a juvenile one.

Some very noisy grey louries

Re: Stories from Tar Roads and From Spots
came across next in a bush close to the road

and also a Wahlberg eagle could be captured and we could not believe it the sun came out too and the sky started to get blue.

As already feared the S121 as well as our beloved Mlambane loop were closed today so we had no other choice than to stay on the tar roads which are definitely not our favourite roads but you never know what might be hanging around. We then reached again the hyena den we already noticed yesterday and that early morning many of them were around

as far as we could discover them between the dense vegetation

some even brought their breakfast

whereas other looked as if they already had an opulent breakfast.

The youngsters were more interested in playing

or to rub their backs against a branch

whilst the other playmate still had to decide what to do next. We in fact could not see all of them as many older ones simply laid flat on the ground and the bush was extreme dense but the clan counted a great number.

We could photograph this one already yesterday as she was lying on the other side of the road close to a den

but today she had a small nice and cute surprise with her………
