Gorid Steals the show KTP April/May 2021

Post by GavinW »

Before lockdown in March 2019, we had a few weeks booked in the Kgalagadi mainly on the Botswana side of the park, which we couldn’t take up.

When the park opened up again this gave us a perfect opportunity to incorporate those days (which were held over for us by Botswana National Parks) along with a whole lot of days in our favourite SANParks campsites.

We ended up with the following itinerary:

Rooiputs 25 -30 April
Polentswa 1 – 3 May
Nossob 4 – 6 May
Kieliekrankie 7 May
Urikaruus 8, 9 May
Mata Mata 10-12 May
Rooiputs 13-15 May

A total of 22 nights in heaven...

We left Cape Town at the ungodly hour of about 4.30 in the morning, destination the Kgalagadi, with a stopover at a campsite 50km north of Upington

We had made a decision that when we were travelling that is we were only staying over in a campsite for one night that we would use our new Pop Up tent as opposed to erecting the whole kit and gadoolle of our trailer tent for just one night.

This was our first night of trying out our new set up

The camps site was amazing and we had a wonderful evening with amazing vistas

Hey Gavin, could you please explain to me, why you get up at 4:30 in the morning in order to only drive 50 km :-?

50km north of Upington is about 900km from Cape Town where they set off from ;-)

Looking forward to your tale here Gavin \O

:-) :-)

This post is for you Lisbeth 0/*

Sunday 25 April 2021

After packing up our pop up tent and flat air mattress we set off for the park. O/\

We arrived at about 10.30 and booked in on both the SANParks and Botswana sides. The rapid COVID test we had to take to be able to camp in the Botswana campsites was really uncomfortable to say the least.

I’m still not too sure why we needed it as you aren’t required to have a test to enter the SA side, and you really are all in one area. Anyway it is what it is.
:-?

After all the admin stuff we eventually set off to Rooiputs. We had 5 nights to look forward to in campsite no 4

Before we got there however we were held up by this lady and her two children parking off on the side of the road

We were really excited to see cheetah this early into our trip. Hoping that the trend would continue.
