Being creatures of habit, we once again set off in a northerly direction the next morning. We were hoping to spot Gorid again as we had heard reports of quite a few recent sightings of her.
Our luck had seemingly run out when the first photograph of the morning was that of this black backed jackal past Kij Kij at 7am in the morning

Once at Melkvlei we did the loop around the hill and back a couple of times before deciding that coffee was to be the order of the day before we carried on further north up the Nossob River

It was after Gnong and before Kraansbrak where our luck changed
Two male lions were parked off under a tree next to the side of the road. They were older than the lions we had seen yesterday and it certainly appeared that these were the “manne” of the area.
Male lions at 9 o clock in the morning don’t tend to do too much, and these guys were obviously well versed in what the text books say about lions and their sleeping habits.

They did lift their heads every now and again to whet our appetites for “that” photo.

It wasn’t to be however, and even a rooi hartebeest ventured closer to make sure that it was in no danger.

Cars came and went, and after one kind soul advised us that we had missed seeing a leopard at Melkvlei, and that it was still there 30 minutes previously, FOMA forced us to leave the sleeping beasts and to hot foot it at 50km/hr back down to Melkvlei.
We found Gorid far away under a tree

She eventually settled down and after exhausting our patience we returned to camp.

For our afternoon drive we returned to Melkvlei and found Gorid perched up on a dead tree, just too far away for our cameras to capture any decent photos besides proof pics.

\O Lovely lazy Lions ,at least they obliged with some not flat Lion shots. ^Q^

Not nice for Gorid to taunt you like that being out on a tree but too far and test your patience . But still proof of the sighting O:V

I'm sure you got Gorid again much, much closer over the next days :-0 She was so accommodating for weeks, which I still find hard to believe.
Wonder if you were also lucky enough to see her right at the picnic spot. Or unlucky, if you were desperate for a nature's call break and couldn't leave the car because of her. lol

God put me on earth to accomplish a certain amount of things. Right now I'm so far behind that I'll never die.

Friday 30th April 2021

We spent most of our last day at Rooiputs in camp.
Our early morning drive was uneventful, but we did get a nice sighting of some jackals

P1130705.JPG

As well as of some lanner falcons.

Our plan was to go through to Twee Rivieren that afternoon, but while we were enjoying a lunch time braai, Martin, Claudia and Oscar arrived. They were going down to sort out a puncture and kindly offered to buy the supplies we needed for us.
O0

This meant that we could relax in camp for the afternoon O\/

They joined us for our last evening in Rooiputs as well as for this sunset.

After packing up our trailer we left Rooiputs for Polentswa ay about 8.30
We saw Martin and Claudia at Melkvlei who told us that Gorid had been doing her thing around the picnic sight and that we had missed her by about 20 minutes.
Obviously not meant to be :o0ps: :o0ps:

Further north, we were treated to this meercat sighting

As well as to 3 cheetah, quite far away near Gunong

After stopping for supplies in Nossob,
