The Namibia Nature Foundation with contributions from World Wildlife Fund, Save the Rhino Trust Namibia and the Integrated Rural Development & Nature Conservation, has produced a docu-series titled The Last Free Rhinos, which focuses on community conservation efforts-specifically around combatting wildlife crime.

It has also focused on elevating rural voices to ensure that they are heard and build pride amongst communities that live with wildlife to understand that they are custodians of our wildlife. In this way, the docu-series is designed to strengthen individual and community recognition, pride, and dignity of the people who live with wildlife and of the nation.

Episode two:

Namibians who live within conservancies to protect, conserve and sustainably utilise wildlife deserve to be recognised as proud custodians of these animals. The world’s last free roaming population of the Black Rhino live within the North West Erongo and Kunene regions in these conservancies and the attempts of the Namibian government and non-governmental organisations are heavily supported by the community members in who partake in protecting these endangered species by acting from the ground and are the immediate response unit to enforce action when incidents occur.
Part II of the docu-series takes an insight into the efforts dedicated to Rhino conservation in the North West Erongo and Kunene regions from the perspective of the rural communities who take pride in the Rhino’s located within their conservancies.

Namibia has been explicitly successful in achieving sustainable wildlife management by allowing people that live in rural areas to protect and sustainably utilise the natural resources in that area. The CBNRM programme that was established in 1998 has played a significant role in creating social and economic benefits for community members.

In this episode of The Last Free Rhino, we take a journey into the lives of community members residing in conservancies in the Erongo and Kunene regions with different wildlife species including the rhino roaming amongst them. It is essential that the voices of our wildlife custodians are heard, and their efforts of contributed to conservation are appreciated.

Episode four:

The Namibian Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism works endlessly in protecting the largest Rhino population in the world roaming freely within conservancies in the Kunene region. The fight to protect these species cannot be done alone by the government therefore supporting NGO's and agencies join hands to assist the state in protecting these precious animals.
