How nice to see a photo of both of you together ^Q^ ^Q^

Great view from your deck \O
That pond where we found the elephants is one of those hidden gems in Kruger - I originally thought we will only drive through mopane bushes and then such a place came across - Sigh \O

Great adventures you are having, even the S47 again! \O

Lovely birdies, I like the greenbacks frogging, the kingfishers and the yellow hornbills against the shy! [O]

A hut with a view at Olifants must be the prime thing one can have in Kruger, you look very happy there! X#X

If one looks quickly at the fighting waterbuck they look as if their horns go backwards like ibex! lol

Yes, finally the S47 was open always incredible when driving again long closed roads ;-) At least when in Kruger we allow ourselves a bungalow with such a view :-)

Thursday, 24. February 2023 – Olifants – Mopani

Explored roads: S93 – S46 – H9 – S95 – H1-6 – H15 – S48 – S50 – S143 – S144 – H1-6 – S142 – S50 – H1-6

Again it was moving day and although the distance between Olifants and Mopani camps is not that long we took our time and after we enjoyed our first brewing hot coffee on our verandah we packed everything together only to enjoy another incredible sunrise at the Olifants look out point.

Image

Today it was again a bit quiet in the beginning but lot of waterbucks could again be seen

Image

and also with the Letaba river in the background.

Image

A saddle billed stork was busy in catching something for breakfast

Image

and we were happy in capturing another burchell’s coucal

Image

before we stopped for one of the many golden orb web spiders along the roadside.

Image

Due to the lack of other sightings we found ourselves relatively early in one of the loops close to Engelhard dam as often in that area it was still a bit overcast during that early time of the day,

Image

however, we spotted more waterbucks

Image

as well as a lone buffalo on the other side of the river and tried to capture without success a fish eagle in flight but the European roller sat long enough still so that at least we photographed same

Image

as well as this nicely posing waterbuck ram.

Image

Already early we reached Letaba camp for a short body break before we carried on and suddenly stood once again in front of our beloved pond where today a night heron

Image

as well as one of the many green backed herons with a tadpole

Image

and on top a woodland kingfisher could be seen.

Again uncountable green backed herons were hanging around some a bit hidden whilst other were still in an acrobatic mood

Image

and also the two pied kingfishers were again back and obviously their dispute could so far not be settled.

Image

Image

We stayed not that long as yesterday so continued but came not far as on one of the many islands in the Letaba a fish eagle couple was obviously searching for something to eat

Image

and after one of them flew off the other one started to call which we watched and heard quite for a while.

Image

The rest was then again quiet until we reached Malopenyana waterhole where today lot of elephants where about to arrive or even left already that place.

Image

Whilst the larger ones could quench their thirst from the large tank the smaller ones had to be content with the waterhole on the ground.

Image

A very self-aware late comer arrived

Image

and after a while another one whilst on the other side

Image

we noticed a kori bustard.

Image

Quite a lot was going on here and we took our time and simply enjoyed the come and go of the many elephants around

Image

and even a group of zebras wanted to take a drink as well.

Image

to be continued………………….
