Re: SO birthday dash Feb 2022
We drove down the H10 and close to Lower Sabie bridge we found a couple of cars stopped staring at the grass .We slowed and the lead vehicle told us they had seen a Leopard cross through a drain but could not find it and as we sat there suddenly movement in the long grass caught our eye .
We joint the "hunt" and tried to follow the feline in the gras but it did not want to be spotted and was only fleetingly seen before disappearing .
We crossed the bridge and found a few familiar sights
There was a big bird present also although for a change not a Kingfisher
We stopped at Sunset dam but there was not much about with the weather so we stopped in at Lower Sabie for a break .
After leaving LS we drove the S28 to go past the new bird hide and finally found it opened .
Not much to see with the weather
Carrying on down the S28 we came across this big Ellie .Although he only has one tusk he would most likely be considered close to a big tusker .he was in Musth and decided to play road block
He went next to the road and had a snooze and when either us or cars on the opposite side would move he would wake and get quite grumpy ...
After quite some time he dropped into a deep sleep and we managed to get past but he did wake and moved closer to the road .The car opposite us had already done a u turn and drove back to croc bridge by that time and we warned some cars we passed to be careful .Some storks close to croc bridge and flowers before we sopped in for a break before continuing to Malelane.

When the weather is like that, nothing looks the same Lovely water lilies though
I know that elephant. It is always around somewhere along the S28. It has lost a tusk since I saw it last time, but the bad temper is the same
The flowers and the white stork

Dismal weather still, Rog!
That dirt road looks very slippery there by the elephant!
Nice stork and eagle, and of course a leppie is a leppie!
I still think that hide is going to be hellish hot in summer...

Yes was a grey start to the day with the weather.
and some more later
Was a little worried about how much rain there would be but it did stop soon afterwards .
Still cant figure out why they have shutters on it its not like there is anyone there to open and close them

Re: SO birthday dash Feb 2022
After the stop at Croc Bridge we went off down the S25 towards Malelane .A Hammerhead was in the riverbed
A giant Kingfisher was waiting on the bridge over Biyamti
And an Owl in a tree
We came around a corner and there in the road was a lovely Leopard but he was not happy to be seen .
He quickly moved deeper into the grass
We stopped in at Malelane and checked into camp .Taking a walk along the fence we found the Ellies grazing on the opposite bank .
The camp was very quiet
We started the Braai and cooked some Chicken
and Braai bread
Later the Ellies came to visit.
