Stephan (Reporter) went to the ranger at Skukuza and confirmed with him the Brown Hyena sighting. So it is the first confirmed sighting of them in a long time.

Did he get photos?

"I'm really trying to get this picture. He said they crossed the road so quickly and he got a brilliant photo of the tree hiding them. I'll ask for that tree and maybe well be able to see them."

But seems he showed the section ranger, who confirmed it.

sorry wanted to get some info on BH and got it off the yellow forum, can browse off line again.

We were talking about this on the yellow side. It was on Ossendryver's sightings update site. I bugged him to ask the guy to send the photo to Ossy so we can all see.
From the silence on the matter since then, it seems fair to assume that it was not a Brown Hyena I do not doubt the section rangers, but that part may have been made up

Yet I do not rule out the possibility that someone will one day get a photo of a brown hyena in Kruger
