Has Kruger Poaching turned a Positive Corner?

Post by Richprins »

Got some info that a ranger there says 1500 rhino have been dehorned over the last year, leading to only a dozen poaching incidents in the last number of months! \O

Guests who spot a rhino with horns are asked to report it and the location to the operations centre.

Good news but this must also add weight to the speculation that there are less than 1800 rhino left in Kruger

Dehorning 1500 in a year - about 30 per week - is quite an achievement.

1 500 rhino
4 500 kg of rhino horn
90m US $
= a major corruption risk

(even if the assumptions are a bit off, the conclusion is the same)
