Thanks everyone for all the comments, but my travel tale is not yet over. :-)

I still want to include the Augrabies segment into the travel tale for the sake of completeness

Monday 8 May 2023

We decided that instead of going for a morning game drive, (which is what we normally do), that we would rather pack up camp early and leave for Augrabies, where we only had one night, so as to maximise our time there.

We were finished packing up by 8am and on our way back home

We got to Augrabies at mid day and after checking in and having quick refreshment; it was off to the falls
The miggies on the way down were challenging, but we got there

The falls themselves were quite a bit lower than the last month or so, but the damage caused by the Vaal Dam opening its sluices a few weeks ago was still evident, with lots of pathways closed and damaged lookout points

We then set off to our accommodation for the night

The Gorge Cottage

Animal sightings in Augrabies, (besides baboons and dassies are rare), so we were excited to come across these giraffe on our way to the cottage

The cottage is situated underneath a lookout point over the gorge and has all the amenities that one would require, and stunning views. The toilets are in a separate building about meters from the cottage on the other side of the parking lot for the view point
From the view point, if you look down, you can see the braai area of the cottage, but the rest is out of view.

Sunset and an evening braai at the Gorge Cottage is possibly the best way to spend a last evening of your holiday
