Peter Derichs - Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park
This is very unusual and interesting surname, is generally accepted as bein English and specifically from the Midlands.
It is certainly a Midland's surname but its origins are in fact French! It derives from 'loche', an old French word which
describes fresh water fish, and pressumably was applied as a nickname surname to a fresh water fisherman. This is to
some extent proven by the coat of arms granted in Brittany, France, before 1792, which has the blazon of three silver
fish, palewise two and one, on a black field.

Great idea to cover the KTP water holes as well.

This is indeed a very nice spot to sit and watch the animals come and go. The only lion I saw closeby was in June 2010, but she disappeared over the dunes and did not come in for a drink. Well at least I have seen the evidence now and can believe that this water hole is popular for lions to sleep at.
Last July we watched the interaction between a jackal and goshawk. The jackal approached the goshawk with caution and was actually scared of it and made not attempt to hunt.

Hi nan,
The previous pic was taken a few 100 meters after the 4x4 route to Bitterpan. North of CL is also cheetah country and we were lucky with a few sightings although not right at the water hole.
Lion walking towards C.L taken June 2010.
The northern cheetahs.
