Where does " depth of field " or "DOF" fit into all of this? What is it? How do you set your camera to it? 0*\ 0*\ 0*\ 0*\

Those are other issues once the correct exposure has been
established! What use does depth of field have in a under
exposed photo? -O- , unless deliberate!!

In the past, all manufacturers of photographic products
complied and agreed that a norm should be set there for
the ease of comparison!.. These be,- Camera manufacturers,
film and lens manufacturers and exposure meter manufacturers.
Also flash and lighting included.

To date this includes digital(ISO) development etc. etc.....

A norm we can all relate to ie,- light value..

Relax please..

Ever did you find yourself staring at the barrel of your lens??
(I did but for other reasons hoping that my little 135mm suddenly
would transform to be a 600mm f2.8, wishful that was).

Ever notice the increment values of the f stops?????!!!,
and why not simply f1 f2 f3 f4 f5 and f6????

You will find that all adhere to a value of f1.4, f1.8, f2......
4.5, 5.6 and 8, 11 16 and so on.

With above and in effect the light value actually gets halved
logarithmically, at the turn and click per f stop, going higher
in value.....

Thus and the same applies going down in number doubling!!!

Relaxx,... Set your camera and try it!!!!, Taking a shot as you
click and vice versa. I may add first find a would be perfect
exposure or close then,...

Look at the results!!????

You will find yourself with a series of shots differing from
either would be good to under exposed, or would be good
to over exposed..

Select the f- stop that produced the best exposure to your liking,...

Next, exposure time!!!!! Your camera provides you with a series
of exposure times!! They are incremented and quite a few.

Select a setting/time and scroll. You will find it doubles or halves
on itself. Choose the next setting, 500 and take a series of shots,
doubling up and halving. You will find a similar result as with the
F- stop experience!!

You now have a would be reasonable F-stop and exposure time!!!
Now try doubling or halving either one of the settings and observe
the result??? Its should result in a over or under exposure!!

In counter action, to correct, try altering the other option by halving
or doubling, take a shot. A result, similar to the one before the alteration
should be obtained!!

In other words, by doubling up f-stop means you need to halve
exposure time to achieve the same result and vice versa!!
