Mlondozi Dam and Picnic site is close to Lower Sabie, being only 15km/30min away on the H10-S29 roads, but is a longer drive of 43km/2hr 30min along the S30 and S29 sand roads, from Skukuza.

My rarest sighting from here was a tsessebe, believe it or not, many years ago...

It was way down the river to the east from the lookout point. Unfortunately they are gone now! :-(

Also during a dry year a decade or so ago the dam was empty...there is actually a drinking trough to the left of the picnic spot for those situations, and lions chased a wildebeest up in the direction of the spot, without success!

RP , I believe you \O In fact , end August 1970 / begin Sept 1970 , I took a pic of Tsessebe at the turn-off to Mlondozi .
It was very , very dry that year , and before the dam-wall was built , but there was still a very small mud-pond left over , to which the animals , wildebeest , zebras , impala , congregated in their thousands . It was really a sight to see , leaving Lower Sabie while still dark , and arriving at the lookout to see the game coming down to drink in groups , etc . , with a pride of lions waiting in ambush :-)

I'm flattered! =O:

Also saw a herd of sable against the backdrop of Muntshe Hill, about the same time, along the S-29 access road! They seem to be making a comeback in the general area, ie. Salitje?
