Helping build hides, and maintaining them, removing alien vegetation.
They get together 1 time a month n do things like that.

You pay a membership fee.
But there are 3 allocated safari tents in Manyane. You can book 1 at just R 150 a night once you a member.

If you book them, you also have to wear your uniform the whole time and can't have a beer or 2.
You would also have to act like a policeman in the park.

A couple of years back you had to become a honourary ranger before you could join fops. I don't k now if it's still like that.

Hi all, I have only just joined this website and came across this topic. My reply is a year or so late but thought I would comment. You do not have to be an honorary officer to join fops, neither do you have to be in uniform and not touch a beer if you stay in the tents. The tents are there to be used by fops members at a fee and are one of our main sources of income.
The Honorary officers used to be a part of fops but today they are a separate independent organization. There is still a good relationship between the two organizations. fops have been working in Pilanesberg for 30 years an d projects include alien vegetation removal, all the geological sites, the Iron Age site, the parking lot areas of all the hides etc etc.
You can find more info on the website.
I hope this answers some of the queries, anyone is welcome to pm me if they would like more info.
Regards
Warren ( chairman FOPS)

Hi again, Honorary rangers were members of fops! but you did not have to be a HO to joins Fops. Today to join the honorary officers you need to do either the Bushveld mosaic or the Bushveld training adventures course to apply.

Hi Warren,
Can I ask the question here - (maybe it is on the site)
What is the age group - and how do tasks vary regarding male and female.
How frequent do you have to attend the park for duty?
- thanks for opening up this thread again,
and a very warm welcome
