We were thinking about going to Nylsvley sometime soon and what better place to read up about it than on SAGR Travel tales.

Wow, Sharifa, very impressive accommodation for R750.00.

Thank you for all the photos, they are really beautiful.

Something to keep in mind - this is a vleiland and it only gets water once the rains have been good up country.
Take note of the time Sharifa was there - that's the right time.
We were there in December and it was still fairly 'dry' although it was raining most of the time.
The waders had not yet returned in their numbers. In fact we saw very little waders during the week.

Only what I exprerienced. ;-)

Agreed. I have been there also out of the birding season, and the birdlife is not spectacular, but it's the best place in South Africa to watch Roan O:V

Also nice to take some walks when it is not too hot in winter ;-)

\O \O Amoli and Toko.

Would it be worthwhile doing a day visit from Pretoria?

It will be STF if you go at the right time of the year and get there at about 8.00am. You will have to go to reception and get the keys for the hides.

According to my book, Southern African Birdfinder by Cohen et al best time is late summer (Feb, March). I think Apr will be good too.It also says for woodland birding Oct to Feb are good.
