Thanks Nan, I'm glad you enjoyed the little astronomy lesson - the three planets are still visible just before dawn in the east.

Ospreys aren't exactly common here either. I think I've seen them before but I suspect that those sightings were misidentified juvenile Fish Eagles 0*\ O/

Marievale is an excellent birding venue - one of the best in SA!

Fluts : There are hundreds of Flamingos at Marievale; both varieties!

Marievale is still there and since they closed the north gate and added some security patrols there have not been any incidents. The last incident, which involved some of the illegal miners who are in the area, was over three years ago according to the people I've spoken to. There are usually plenty of other visitors around at the weekends so that's the time to go if you are interested but get there very (06:00) early to secure a spot at the Hadeda Hide.

I've been there several times in the past year and have had some excellent sightings and some wonderful photo opportunities.

Happily, I can now access AW from work again - the netnanny was blocking the site for some unknown reason (probably due to something RP posted) - so it's time to post some stuff again, as soon as I get them watermarked.

Hey PR,

It would be great to meet up at Marievale, let's organise for some time in December - I'm booked this w/e and next week I'm off to KTP for two weeks O/\ O\/ . One problem is that I usually do a go/no go when I wake up at 04:30 and look out at the weather!
