STF I also come up with the common Redshank, but it is not found in that area according to the Newman's bird guide?????

in my Sasol's Birds of Southern Africa, there is some red cross (= presence) near J'burg

In my Roberts Bird Guide it states " Uncommon to rare non br Palearctic migrant - most records Aug to Jan.
