STF I also come up with the common Redshank, but it is not found in that area according to the Newman's bird guide?????

Yes Nan, near Johannesburg (about 45km)

Near Springs and very near to Nigel. $\O$

in my Sasol's Birds of Southern Africa, there is some red cross (= presence) near J'burg
not a lot but...

In my Roberts Bird Guide it states " Uncommon to rare non br Palearctic migrant - most records Aug to Jan.
