Looks like the Gauteng Birders were also confused at first between a ruff or redshank. See link below and lots of other sightings at Marievale

You had a great time in Marievale I see with all these species and great pics.
The Plover is a young Blacksmith.
Agree with Sprocky & PRWIN with Southern Pochard for the duck - a female.
The wader is a Ruff as Lis noted.
Here is a Redshank for comparison.

Ruff have a "scalloped" look on their upperparts due to the pale edges to the feathers evident in your pic STF.
