Kruger Through the Years with my Dad

I have finally finished scanning all of my dad’s old photographs and thought I’d share some with you. His first trip to Kruger was in 1958 with some varsity friends. The next one was only in 1977, which was also our first trip of many as a family. Apart from a few pics I won’t be able to tell you where they were taken.
You may have seen some of these pics already in the History thread, but I’ll post them anyway.
Numbi Gate
Skukuza Hut
Skukuza Restaurant
Skukuza
Hippo Pools
Hitching a ride! -O
My brother and I at Satara on our first trip in 1977.
My dad's brown Audi which we thought was very fancy!!

I remember it was December and boiling hot (we never went in December again), and my dad had taken a 6-pack of beer for the whole trip - they lasted the first day!! -O
The old Lower Sabie Restaurant. When I see this pic I immediately think of the drums at dinner time.
One of RP’s ancestors!

I don’t remember what camera my dad had in those early days I just remember it was in a brown case. He later upgraded to a Canon.
Quite a nice tusker.
A flat cheetah. Not a great pic but I suppose in those days you kept what you got!
I remember this quite clearly. This baboon would wait for a car to slow down, hop on the car and not get off. The person would eventually start driving in the hope he would jump off but he stayed on for the ride, then hopped off further down the road and waited for another car to get a lift back! -O
Starlings at Olifants. One day we were eating breakfast at Olifants, and a Yellowbilled Kite swooped down and grabbed a pork sausage out of my brother’s hand!!
One of many, many lion sightings. We had fantastic lions sightings in those early years. My mom used to keep a tally at the back of one of her bird books and on one trip we saw 45 lions in 6 days. We used to have 3 or 4 sightings a day!
Ellies in a riverbed somewhere.
With my mom and brother at Kruger Gate and my dad’s silver Audi. I love my brother's hat!! -O Come to think of it, that could be the "Spotter's Hat". My mom started this tradition that carried on for many years. Whoever spotted something special would wear the hat until the next sighting. She would write the details of the sightings on the hat and when we got home she embroidered it...I have no idea what happened to them!
My dad sporting his very fashionable moustache! He had that for quite a few years!

Not sure why he was using the braai fork?

-O
