I have read that there would be some new provincial liquor bills in South Africa and would like to know what the actual status quo is. Which provinces have a ban on Sunday alcohol sales now?

As far as I am aware, all of them and .gov wants to reduce the trading hours even more.

If you speak to locals in almost any town, they will have a spot where you can buy alcohol on a Sunday. But, this would only be for emergency as the prices are a lot higher. If you travel into the townships you will find many off sales that are open, it seems that the countries law does not count in these areas, but I wouldn't risk going in there for a few beers.

Gauteng also?

The Northern Cape has a ban, that I had to learn the hard way

Gauteng has bottle stores open on Sundays, think it is only Western Cape that has a law of no alcohol sales from bottle stores etc on Sundays. The rest it is up to individual owners on if they want to be open.

I think, KZN has the ban but they are thinking of lifting

Definitely banned on Sundays in KZN and has been for as long as I can remember

No official sales in Mpumalanga as well
