Originally known as "Grootskrij": groot = big, krij = diarrhoea.

Apparently Jackson, the surveyor, camped here and his oxen ate tsamma melon and drank the water,
resulting in the original name.

2 pics of the waterhole. It's very close to the road but if there's (cat) action,
it might get cramped as there is not much leeway like with other waterholes
in the area (e.g. 14th, Dalkeith, Craig Lockhardt - all further north)

For me the waterhole hasn't produced such a great cheetah sighting as yours, pooky and nan,
let alone a caracal sighting ( ) but it's always good for birds.

It's the thirteenth borehole created for the Union troops in 1908. Perhaps the place was known as Grootskrij before the waterhole was sunk

right, it's one of the best place for little birds... like Waxbill
