Shingwedzi Rest Camp
Situated at 23° 6'28.18"S and 31°26'2.94"E, Shingwedzi is on the banks of the Shingwedzi River.
One of the few camps that have two entry / exit gates. Most accommodation types can be found here, including camping sites for caravaners and camping enthusiasts. I found the camp to be delightful as it was both quiet and clean.
The Kanniedood dam hide is close by and well worth a visit. During my last visit, it was rewarding to park on the low water bridge and watch the many water birds. Firsts for me were Malachite Kingfisher, Open Billed stork and a few others.

Re: Shingwedzi Rest Camp
There is a swimming pool at Shingwedzi?
Anybody staying over here need to do themselves a favour and go sit at the restaurant at night. During all my visits to this camp, I have done this and in the dry riverbed, the bush comes alive.
During my last visit in October I did this ( as I usually do when everyone else is sleeping). I was sitting and with my torch just shined into the dark abyss that is the riverbed, spotting elephants. I switched off the torch and was enjoying the bush sound when a lion roared very close by. I knew it was close by the fact that my intestines was vibrating (few people have experienced a lion roar up-close, chilling I have to say). I switched on the torch and the most amazing Lion male was standing in the riverbed staring at me, at that stage I was glad for the fence. He roared again, gave me and the ellies a look and disappeared into the bush on the far side.
This camp is also part or the Orpen legacy in the park.

Re: Shingwedzi Rest Camp
Shingwedzi is an old main camp, situated in a game-rich area of the far north. The surrounding mopaneveld is the home of many of Kruger's big elephant tuskers, as well as rare antelope species such as eland, tsessebe and roan. The river attracts streams of game and attendant predators in the dry months, and visibility is generally good for game-spotting. Many roads intersect the area.
What to look for:
Elephant, buffalo, baboon
Nyala Tree
Giant eagle owl
