Letaba is situated at 23 deg 51 min 15.74 S and 31 deg 34 min 28.18 E. (GPS)

Another of my favored camps, Letaba lies along the banks of the Letaba river with an awesome view of the river from the restaurant. The area is well known for elephant but many other species are also in the area.

There is a very interesting elephant museum in the camp. The closest KNP entry point to get to Letaba would be the Phalaborwa gate. It's about 220 km from the Numbe gate which translates to many hours of being in the car.

The camp itself has different types of accommodation, including camping sites for caravan and camping enthusiasts are also present. Letaba is close to Engelhard dam and Longwe Lookout is well worth the drive. En route Mathambeni hide is also well worth the effort.

Letaba is an old main camp, in an area where mopane scrub and riverine vegetation overlap. Game can be scarce but the river attracts animals throughout the dry months. Roads are plentiful in the area, and the campsite is especially popular as it has plenty of trees.

What to look for:

Waterbuck, buffalo.

Fish Eagle

Sycamore Fig.

I'm going into the park tomorrow, but don't think I'll go as far as Letaba. ;-) I'm sure RobT or Amoli have pics of the tents. If not I will get some in the next few weeks. \O
