Re: Another Short Long Weekend in the Kruger
Day 1. Saturday 27 July 2013. Sanbonani. Continued.
On the way back to Sanbonani we encountered a Martial Eagle

And at Nwaswitshaka dam a Hip-Oh wearing the latest fashion accessory headgear.

I managed to get a quick 40 winks at the resort and then headed off on my own. I went in at Phabeni Gate and headed up the S3.
A Fish Eagle was shouting the odds from a distant tree.

African Hawk Eagle

Further along, as I was driving out of a donga, some movement caught my eye but whatever it was vanished.
After a bit of manoeuvring, I spotted something in the grass

After a short wait, he got up and walked across the road right in front of me

I was confused, Blondie was not what had caught my eye, what I'd seen was much darker, so I waited a bit longer and...

That's my kind of Lion sighting, short, sweet, not sleeping and all to myself!
I continued and spied a Whiteheaded Vulture

I still had time left when I reached the S4 junction so I turned left and headed back to Phabeni gate along the S4 and S1.
Nyamundwa Dam was looking tranquil in the late afternoon sun.

And I had time to capture a beautiful sunset

Let us permit nature to have her way. She understands her business better than we do.

Not sure I liked the way he was looking at me - I'd just blocked him when he tried to cross the road and I think he was a bit wary of the car.harrys wrote:Great Lion sightingI liked the way the one was looking at you

Thanks Nan, I thought the Hip-oh looked as cute as an adult Hippo can get - which isn't very! -Onan wrote:I love the Hippo with the hat![]()
