Oi, On a recent visit I actually noticed all the small safes in the camps I visited
Tamboti, Satara, Skukuza - And thought it was the biggest waste of money EVER
I for one will be sure to use them in future

I believe that this has happened a few times before and Biyamiti definitely rings a bell, hence I always take all valuables in the car each drive.

I think they are electronics one like you get in hotel rooms...you put your own password into it. But there obviously has to be an override password, so still not 100% safe.
We also never leave anything valuable in the bungalows.

I let sometimes in the bungalow (not papers/money).... but never in the safe, it's the first thing theft would like to open/carry away
