I first saw this beautiful male December 2010 on the S28

His coalition killed a giraffe a few meters into a no entry road visible from the S28. We learned from a fellow tourist at the sighting that they were on a night drive the night before and the male was known as “Scar” by the locals (as you can clearly see on his buttocks) I first thought it was a mud stain
You can imagine my surprise when I realised that we saw Scar in December 2012 again, on a night drive about 10 km from Crocodile bridge on the tar road

Looks like a branding from a scientific project, Twigga?

The brandings are often done in inoccuous shapes so as not to spoil the aesthetic appearance of the animals, versus printed numbers etc.

If this is the case then I suspect we have a few "Scars" roaming around the area, and this might not even be the same lion?

Those two pics look like the same lion.

If it is a brand, other lions wil have different shapes. Normally on the shoulder?

Sorry, but I cannot help On my last trip I only saw ears and tails and some paws in the air -O
