1 Oct. 2010 - Orpen to Lower Sabie – Part 3
After that refreshing trip to the pool, we made plans for the rest of the day. Rex and Johanna said they would like to spend the rest of the afternoon exploring the camp, and having a couple of drinks on the deck. Mommo, my mom and I opted to take another drive. We decided to drive down to Duke’s waterhole, then cut across on the S137 and back to Sunset Dam.
Just after leaving camp we saw and heard our first Fish Eagle!

There was nothing at Duke’s (we’ve never seen anything there), and the S137 was also very quiet. We eventually found some giraffes to watch. This one was acting very strangely – at first we thought it had got it’s back leg caught in some branches, but then realised it was just pushing the branch up and down – I suppose animals get bored too sometimes!

We slowed down behind a rangers vehicle. He was talking to two guys in a Golf. When they had finished talking, the ranger drove off and the Golf pulled up next to us and very casually, the driver said “leopard”. What? Where? When? How? Right next to the road to the left of where the ranger had been were two leopards!!

We decided to take a quick look at the bridge before going to Sunset Dam – I was determined to find his otter from our last trip! But no otter today – just a lovely sunset.

We made our way to Sunset Dam for more of the same.

We got back to camp just before 6pm. Rex and Johanna said they’d had a lovely afternoon, walking around the camp, and watching some ellies from the deck. We showed them our pics of the leopards and naturally they were a bit
