The feathers on some of those of which you can't see the faces don't look like barn owls. But it might be the light playing a trick.

So I am off the opinion that all the owls in the front ( encircled ones) are Marsh Owls. I took a few photos which helped me to see them in different positions. I am not 100% sure of the the second one from the left though. Strange that they stayed on the outside of the waterhole ...and they just moved off slightly when the brown hyena arrived whereas the barn Owls moved away for quite a while.

Oh, thanks for that, Michele. That's pretty much what I had thought too. But the number seemed outrageous considering marsh owls don't really exist in the KTP lol Only the one on the right I had deemed to be a Verreaux's. However, since you got more photos, I completely trust you judgement ^Q^

Gosh where has the time gone / Actually I did find a bird I hadn't seen before ...just need to find the photos and work out how to post the image...it is ages since I have posed anything.:)
