That poor victim died due to doing what they do!

Sometimes it’s not until you don’t see what you want to see, that you truly open your eyes.

Re: alleged elephant attack on vehicle
I said before the ellie was killed as a public relations exercise, IMO...but the point is there has been massive media attention compared to previous ones from SP side, and I think this video will get a lot of views as it has a long prelude. Unless it disappears..

Re: alleged elephant attack on vehicle
Just watched the video. I think the people inside the car were totally in the wrong
and should pay Sanparks for the cost of the Elephant.
That should be a good message to other peeps that try the same stupid thing.

Re: alleged elephant attack on vehicle
Just seen the video
Those people had so much time to get out of the way of that poor ellie
They could have reversed and at one point even gone forward and left the scene
There didn't appear to be any aggression from the ellie in the beginning and he surely
gave them enough warning to move off
It is not right that the ellie has to be the scapegoat to teach people that wild animals need
to be respected and have their space. A real case of hasty action I think, but hopefully
the lessons will have been learnt so that at least no other animal needs to loose its life.

Re: alleged elephant attack on vehicle
On FB:
South African National Parks has noted your concerns with regards to the putting down of an elephant in the iconic Kruger National Park in December 2013. The killing of animals in National Parks is a sensitive and emotive issue and needs to be handled with great care.
It is for this reason that we would like to encourage people to not be quick to criticize SANParks decision in putting this particular animal down.
SANParks follows a strict policy that guides those responsible on any action that needs to be taken in cases such as this one. Our rangers reported that the same elephant bull had been involved in previous fights with other dominant bulls since it has been in musth phase. This is a periodic condition in males that makes them aggressive when their testosterone levels rise by up to 60 times. It also had an injury, which is believed to have increased its aggressiveness and this could have resulted in more attacks.
In terms of the policy animals may only be destroyed in certain instances especially where human life is in danger.
Lastly we would like you to understand that all necessary care were followed in the process of putting the animal down.
Best regards,
Reynold "Rey" Thakhuli

Re: alleged elephant attack on vehicle
Come on
The " attack " took place on a Monday . The elephant was put down on the same day
So , was the incident properly investigated prior to the ellie being put down ? By whom ? How was the ellie identified as being the culprit ? Who then made the decision to put the elephant down ? Did he refer it to Head Office ?
There are many many questions that remain unanswered , and certainly the actions taken here , are not good placing Sanparks in good stead . This was such a knee-jerk reaction , and this , IMO , is an attempt to start covering up the whole incident

Lesego Nko would you please confirm info on the December Elly incident. We were at Skukuza the day after this and another visitor showed me a photo of a Blue Ford Ranger bakkie (new model) which he said was from this incident. Four holes were clearly visible in the side of this vehicle, which was about 50m into the bush. Now the video shows a VW polo
