Stunning giraffe photos, Tina! O:V

Still in October 2011:

Elena (and her by now deceased cub) came walking down the dunes on the Dalkeith bypass:

She proceeded into the riverbed next to the waterhole and caught a springbok that we hadn't even seen

The little one fiercely defended the kill against other predators. =O:

O\/ O\/ O\/ great sighting!

How many of Elena's cubs are still alive and survived? Anyone know? And who is the most successful mother in bringing up cubs there?

Difficult to say, Toko. But between Elena and Lisette - Elena managed to raise 6 cubs to independence, Lisette 'only' 5.

But I'm pretty certain that there are less visible mums there who did better than that. O**

Last sighting of mine - October 2012.
This lioness was desperately looking for water when Dalkeith was dry at the time.
She was on her own and seemed to be lactating so we suspected that she had cubs somewhere nearby.
