It’s April 13th and it’s Friday…. Friday 13th… In many minds it’s not a good day for anything.
Well, how different it was for us. We were in Satara and decided to have breakfast in Lower Sabie. We were following the main road and after Tshokwane we took the H10. I don’t know why but I decided to take the dirtroad S128. After about 15 minutes driving we suddenly saw “something” we have never seen before. Let’s say we were sitting with our eyes wide open, breathless and forgot to react.
What did we see ? Two Caracal , male and female…
But… at the time I had my camera ready the female just “jumped” into the high grass and we just could make some pictures of the male… just before he also jumped away.
So…pictures are not that great but the experience really was. First time ever for us to see them in Kruger. The only cat we never saw.

We saw some movement in the grass, but the lady did not show up again.

The male was looking for his girlfriend and disappeared too… just a second after this photo.
We waited some time , hoping they were coming back to the road but …. Nothing happened. I was just turning the car to drive back a bit. Ten meters…and then the male just jumped on the road and run away quickly

A last glimpse of this Rooikat before he finally was gone….

As said, not really great pics but I think you can imagine the feeling we had by seeing this animal. First time ever for us and sometimes we were talking about the Caracal but also sure we would not see them at daylight.
How special a Friday 13th can be….
