The communities around the park are protesting to get government attention, their theory is more disturbance to traffic/work etc they do, the quicker gov listens. SANParks by allowing the trucks to reroute through Kruger thus minimise the effect the protest has, so in effect are working counter to what the communities are trying to achieve. So are SANParks working for or against the surrounding communities?
Heavy Vehicles using Kruger as Shortcut
Re: Heavy vehicles using KNP as short cut due to protests
It is a rubbish decision.

Agree with you here and the rest of what you said, mith. Valid point from RobT in this respect as well.mouseinthehouse wrote:I think it's a rubbish decision, uncommon or not. I don't pay good money and travel thousands of kilometres to look at haulage trucks in a wildlife reserve. What next?

Re: Heavy vehicles using KNP as short cut due to protests
I still can't get my head around how this happened?
The official reply is very vague...which gates...which dates....not mentioned officially!
Around that time there was unrest on the road between Hazyview and Kruger Gate. All the time, the R-40 between Hazyview and White River is kept open. In other words, there is no reason for trucks to detour to Kruger from Hazyview, or anywhere else, for that matter....
According to this leap of logic, no-one could then travel between White River and Hazyview and points North on any given day...so us plebs could also apply to go through the Park to escape unrest, which is nonsense, as there are always alternatives!
How could a convoy of trucks become stuck at Kruger gate, having passed the "unrest" and having had an alternative route from Hazyview in the first place?
What does make absolutely perfect sense, though, is a contractor looking at a map and saying "Bugger this travelling all the way down to Nelspruit/Plaston, waiting at the roadworks in the N4 gorge, and paying big tolls at the Tollgate to get to Malelane/Komatipoort.. I'll phone a buddy in Kruger and take the shortest route!"
In fact, did the trucks even pay entry?
This is nonsense!

The trucks were en route to Moz, and as it is a large scale contract it will happen again if not stopped. They are going from the pine and bluegum forests near Sabie to Maputo.

Send one them to the yellow side to reply to the official statement then. Would love to see the reaction there.
