Sometime round about 1990 I visited one of the museums in Bloemfontein and amongst others there were several displays of an extinct species of buffalo with horns of at least 3 meter width.

A really good specimen you found Pumbaa- not quite a mega buffalo at the moment but looking at the abundance of "soft" surface fiber on his horn boss makes it clear that he is still relatively young and his horns are likely to grow a lot wider - Gerrie.

You would use a tape measure , and measure across from one horn tip to the other .
Caution - I suggest you blindfold boetie first =O:
