Re: Your Most Successful Road
My kids started at 3 months old and were weaned on places like Babalala for breakfast. The only time I was let down was with a 1 year old eldest son in 1984 when it was way past feeding time and he hada wet nappy and mom was in camp and I was photographing Kambaku (The biggest ivory Carrier ever in Kruger) on the S39 Salitje Road (In those days the South didnt have a traffic problem and Lower Sabie was a delightful small camp with a magic quiet and secluded camp site)) and he started crying the one and only time he did that. There was 1 other car by that time and in order to not spoil their experience and to disturb this old giant I reluctantly had to leave as he was getting closer for better pics.

Those Eland all died from ticks...NOT Their natural area.Richprins wrote:There is/was a resident herd of eland around PK and Shitlhave Dam, released from the "Antelope Camp" a few years ago, along with the Liechtenstein's and tsessebe!
Saw the herd from Faai loop and HI-1 near Shitlhave....scan carefully toward Ship Mountain!
Re: Your Most Successful Road
Our previous "best road" for diversity of sightings was the H4-1 as stated, but lately it hasn’t produced for us and my new “best road” for sightings and scenery is the S100.

Re: Your Most Successful Road
My best road for diversity of sightings has to be the S50 from the rear gate of Shingwedzi camp to Nyawutsi hide and back on one Winter's day. 110 species of birds, reptiles and mammals in a single day from gate opening to gate closing. I've matched this figure also by sitting at Rooibosrandt Dam for the whole day. As I've only ever been to Kruger in Winter, this must surely be better during the Summer months with all the Summer migrants in the park to boost figures?

Not really Flutts, I think a lot more would be seen in Summer, especially if the birder was a local who knew all the songs and calls.
Most guide books say 150 to 250 species in a 3 day period is achievable during Summer.

I agree, 110 species is a record ... would love to achieve that.
I would think if you were two or three birders, the more you would see.
The most successful road for me so far must certainly be the H1-4 between Satara and Olifants.
I saw the most variety of animals and birds on this road, and especially raptors.
