Caravan or Trailer Camping

Post by harrys »

We started camping 6 years ago and here is some info to help make it a wonderfull experience

- Dont buy every gadget you see, u seldom use them and it only takes up space and adds weight to your caravan or trailer

- If on a tight budget use the food u would have used when you stayed at home, dont spend extra money on unnessary luxuries.

- If you camp with a caravan only pitch your rally tent and your ground sail, with practise it will take you about 20 minutes to set up.

- Lastly for now, just enjoy your trip and remember your holiday starts when you leave home.

A small tip from my side concerning camping:

- Try and spend at least two to three nights in one camp, breaking down and setting up camp wastes a lot of time and becomes tedious.

- In the summer months it is always handy to have a spade with you. If you see the weather turning nasty, dig small trenches to channel water away from your tent.

Great Advice guys!!

From my side:

- Especially with a tent, take a broom and saw off the top part. use this to clean your camping site of small rocks and thorns that could prick a hole in the tent floor.

- A ground sale underneath also helps, make sure it sticks out in front, just enough to wipe your feet before entering the tent - especially useful when raining.

Rectangular rubber car matts placed at the tent entrance are useful for keeping gravel out of the tent.

Take your wife with, it is much easier to set up camp quickly.

I must say we had an interesting sighting while visiting Gump at Malelane Camp. A pensioner arrived with a huge caravan, unhooked it, and then manouvered the caravan using a remote control device!

Gump says there is an electric motor on two of the caravan's wheels...works very well. \O
