The large lightening initiated fire which started on Thursday night in the Pretoriuskop/Stolsnek sections has now finally been brought under control thanks to ranger efforts working relentlessly day and night to control the fire against strong winds and high temperatures.
WOF is also providing support to clean up risk areas. It is estimated around 50 - 70,000 ha has been burnt or burning.

There had been huge fires in Kruger especially in the Pretoriuskop area, we drove down on the H2-2 Voortrekker road and saw a pride of lions, it was amazing to see how well they were camouflaged against the burnt ground.
