Re: Rooiputs Campsite and waterhole: Lion Heaven
As I mentioned our campsite at Rooiputs has no braai facilities so I bought a R100 el cheapo at Makro in PE but it was made of tin so we had to line it with industrial grade Tin foil to prevent Briquettes burning through the thin soft metal unlike the Thick steel braais supplied by SANParks at their Hollywood fenced camps with electricity etc ..One night my braai unit was not cool enough to bring inside the tent when we wanted to go to bed so I took a chance and left it outside for that night..Here you bring in everything including Solar panels and their cables as the Big & hairies will modify them for you at no charge excuse the pun!!
Anyway this Bruiser woke me up that night to the sound of Tinkling Tin Foil 5 ft from my head with only canvas separating us!! Jane my long suffering camping in the wilds wife asked me what it is ..I said there was a slight breeze outside ..she replied 'There is no wind' so I said it must be a porcupine..She then said a Porcupine couldnt climb on a braai ..I wasnt going to fool her ..Soon there was silence after a deep grunt!!! Next morning I got up as usual in the Dark to get ready for my legal 07h00 pre sunrise 500 metre game drive down the hill to the waterhole to get BEST light. My Headlight picked up the Braai but instead of the Black , Dirty and gooyi Braai Grid it was Bright Shiny Clean and there were the tell tale Soup Plate sized Paw marks all around the Braai unit !! I followed his spoor down the hill into the Nossob River Bed and there was his Lordship sitting all smug just him and me and we had a great photo session uninterupted by anyone else ..BLISS

Lions were often in camp and here early one morning 2 beautiful lionesses were walking past the Campsite 1 area and as i never use a flash on wild animals especially sensitive retina carnivores I was happy to use natures flashlight the sun in the dappled sunlight

Rich no this is 500 metres into Botswana and you book through Gabs. As you can see the campsites have everything including covered parking !!!
