Re: SAPS, SANDF & SANParks Employees Involved in Poaching
A lot have been released on bail lately. It has to do with the Act and the constititution, and up to the various judges' seeing of cases! Magistrates say no, then appeal gets taken up higher, or vice-versa...
Certainly no infiltration of the justice system!

Suspected poachers remanded in custody
They were arrested on Monday after the carcass of a rhino was discovered on the S4 dirt road the previous day, about 5,5 kilometres from the gate
11 April 2014 | Nicolene Smalman
SKUKUZA - The son of the regional field ranger of Phalaborwa appeared in the local Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday on a charge of poaching after the carcass of a white rhino was discovered near Paul Kruger Gate in the Kruger National Park (KNP) on Sunday.
Mr Derrick Mashale’s 27-year-old son, Mr Tshepo Marvin Mashale, also an employee of SANParks, appeared with his co-accused, Mr Exelence Blues Shabangu, a 26-year-old field guide and water-control officer, stationed at the gate.
They were arrested on Monday after the carcass of a rhino was discovered on the S4 dirt road the previous day, about 5,5 kilometres from the gate. It was also seen by various visitors as it was only about 20 metres from the road. Both horns had been hacked off.
Mashale and Shabangu appeared briefly and were remanded in custody until their next appearance on April 16.
The Mashale bunch were in court last Thursday. Turns out they allegedly swiped an OSV to do the deed, from a nearby hotel!
8 charges against them, and they remain behind bars until 26 March, no parole!

Suspected poachers to appear
27 January 2015 at 05:30 by Sapa - Three police constables and an ex-field ranger implicated in rhino poaching are expected to appear in the Nelspruit Regional Court on Tuesday.
Three police constables and an ex-field ranger implicated in rhino poaching are expected to appear in the Nelspruit Regional Court on Tuesday.
During their previous appearance in November the last year, the case was postponed for the dockets to be made available to the defence.
During the time, the constables, Arnold Mashele, Dennis Mkhonto and Morris Sehlabela, and the field ranger, Phineas Dinda, were not asked to plead to charges of conspiracy to hunt rhino and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.
Mashele, Sehlabela and Dinda were arrested in May after a joint operation between the Hawks and national park officials.
Mkhonto was arrested later.
According to national police spokesman Lt-Gen Solomon Makgale, after the park officials received a tip-off in May, they pulled over a marked Skukuza police bakkie.
Makgale said at the time that a suspected poacher, armed with a .375 hunting rifle and rounds of ammunition, was found in the back of the vehicle.
The firearm, ammunition, a silencer and poaching equipment were seized.

On Tuesday 24 February 2015, four suspects were arrested at Irene Mall by a multi-disciplinary SAPS task team. After information was received regarding the suspects being in possession of rhino horn, an operation took place during which the suspects tried to sell rhino horn to the team. They were arrested and the rhino horn, estimated at about R500 000, was found behind the back seat of their car. Shockingly, two of the suspects were found to be police members, W/Officer Mothupi of the West Rand Dog Unit (the handler of a sniffer dog trained to detect rhino horn) and W/Officer Khumalo from Honeydew Crime Intelligence Gathering. The suspects appeared in court today and were granted R15 000 bail.

Re: SAPS, SANDF & SANParks Employees Involved in Poaching
Some years ago at Babalala, while prepping breakfast,
a bunch of these nomads wandered in,....!!!
almost like Gods gift to mankind!!!
At the time, not quite informed about the status questionable,
regarding poaching, conversation came about, not because I felt
like it!!!!
Cigarettes were demanded and plenty wara wara(Hot air for those abroad).
We were in no certain terms "enlightened" how the crux of the matter lies!!!
And the link,
too malpractice was immediately established, be it a cigarette only,...!
They all know that they are sitting on a goldmine,...sick
