Testing the Trailer - a short trip to the Pilanesberg

Post by BluTuna »

It was a long time coming. We acquired an off-road trailer at the end of July and were champing at the bit to get away for a weekend to the Pilanesberg to try it out.

Originally, we had arranged for SM and Skillie to join us but we couldn't make it because of work commitments.

There were three other attempts to get away that were postponed due to various reasons but eventually we managed the weekend of 27/28 of September.

W arrived at Bakgatla late on the evening of the 26 September, found a camping spot and set up. After a restless night, mainly due to being in a completely strange environment and the gale that was blowing, we were up and ready to go for a drive just after six.

The sun was shining and the light was sublime. We decided to do the Moloto Drive and along the way we spotted a few of the usual suspects.

And then some extremely unusual suspects! O/\ We aren't exactly regular visitors to the Pilanesberg but we have spent a good amount of time there over the years. I think this may have been a first for us in this Pilanesberg. O/\ O/\

This sighting opened up the possibility of another first for this park :-0

On top of the rocks, a sky watcher!

As usual, there were many unmentionables.

At one of the picnic spots, a Black Sunbird.

More usual suspects.

Then it was back to camp for brunch and a siesta.

Hi Sprocky!

If I ever saw Buffs in Pilanesberg before it was a very long time ago.

Thanks Amoli, I was really excited about seeing the Buffs too. The Sunbird was a difficult one to photograph, getting the light right was impossible!
