Jeehaa, the first sunny morning! The 18th was sunny all day, and, of course, hot.
The obligatory morning walk netted a mostly yellow bag:

On the beach, some kites were flying:

Yellow-rumped Tinkerbird:

A pair of Yellow-breasted Apalis:

Some more Yellow Weavers:

And a pair of Collared Sunbirds:

And then, for approximately 3 seconds, a Pygmy Kingfisher, much too fast for me:

Returning to camp, I accidentally noticed a Starling carrying food, and soon located the nest, right in the middle of the campsite. I got out my tripod, fitted the gimbal head, scratched out my cable relase and my little three-legged stool, and planted myself a few metres away for the rest of the day. I only realized later that these were not normal glossy Starling, but in fact Black-chested. Unfortunately the light was not great:

The day was nicely rounded off with a stunning sunset viewed from the lookout platform:

During the evening, some clouds came back, but they soon burned away.

Another trip to charge the batteries was called for. Can't be stuck with warm beer now!

Along the way, two Woolly-necked Storks in the road.

At the gate,a local hitched a ride. Outside the reserve, I found a road i wanted to take. I indicated that I wanted to turn off, and the gentleman in broken english thanked me for the lift and warned me to be carefull of "skorros" near the lighthouse. Slightly concerned, I headed forth.

Not much to see at the lighthouse but a 3m chain-link fence, but I noticed on the GPS another road leading closer to the coast, and I thought maybe I could get a good look at the lighthouse from down there. What I found was fascinating, an old camp-site, now abandoned, and the wreck of the Jolly Rubeno (I discovered later).

Along the way I had passed a couple of guys pitching camp, so I returned to them to ask waht the setup was. They said that it was an abandoned camp, that they were camping there for the first time, and that one came here as a group, and armed at that, or not at all. So I took my leave, locked my doors and left.

Thanks for all the kind comments.

Happy new year everyone, and a great 2015!

I am going to take the meat off the braai now, eat it and then go to bed. Our little Jack Russel is now suddenly for the first time in his life upset about the crackers and fireworks...

Sounds like a place to avoid, even if it looks quite interesting ;-)
