Africa Wild

Our first visit to Marakele was not at all what I expected. There was a distinct lack of animal sightings due to the density of the bush but we made up for that with some exciting bird sightings including 5 lifers.

We arrived at around midday on Saturday 21 March and found Super Mongoose and Skillie waiting for us at Bontle Camp site. We had been trying to organise a weekend away together since we bought our off-road trailer last year and this was the first time that both our schedules matched.

We did go out for a drive later in the afternoon but we found that there was better game spotting from the camp where we had already seen a very handsome Tree Agama and partner.





I also found a bee-hive near one of the dustbins.


The next morning we took our time getting up and headed off for the drive "up the hill".

On the way, we had some spectacular scenery.




Then we got to "The Hill"!

Very pretty! Micro and Macro!

The agamas are pretty!

And the way uphill is a nice drive, roll on the photos!

It was a stunning drive but also pretty scary - Stargazer was almost sitting on the centre console when we got to the top - there was a vertical drop on her side of the car! I had the same experience on the drive down.
