We only wanted a couple of days , and as such did not want to travel very far .
Now , I do love the Karoo , and for choice , the nearest National Park is Tankwa . But.... Tankwa was booked out , so we decided to try out one of Cape Nature's parks -- Anysberg Nature Reserve .
The reserve is not so very big , only about 65 000 ha , but , less than 200 kilometres away from Worcester -- well , that makes for a quick and easy trip .
Left the farm on Saturday afternoon , just before 1.00 pm , travelled the long way round , via Montagu , Barrydale , then nearerer to Ladismith , took a dirt road to the reserve .
The written bumph about the park states that if you were to arrive after 4 pm , then you should call the park office to find out about keys , etc .
Arrived at a closed gate at 3 minutes before 4 o'clock . What to do ? Luckily , very luckily , found we had a cell phone signal of about half a bar . called the office -- big sign on the gate with the number , park managers number , and some other info which we did not bother about too much , except that it said the office was 24 kilometres away .
No answer on the phone .
Yechhh , what to do

Oh well , after some fiddling with the gate , found that it was not locked , opened it , drove through , and off we went .
Road was quite rough . Sort of a tamish 4x4 route , could mange speeds of up to 60 on good level patches. ( Lucky to be in a Landy

Eventually arrived at the office -- it was closed , no signs on it , nothing to tells us " hi guys , expecting you , go to so and so , etc " .
This place have a number of cottages , all different names , like Gecko , Agama , etc . You know, all reptiles , especially of the Karoo . Ours was Seps -- which is a type of a lizard Tetradactylus tetradactylus ( very original name and surname

So , we went looking for Seps - the cottage .
Aahhh , delightful

This is the view in front of us -- looking right down the long valley , and there , in the far distance , a mountain peak .
Hmmm.... that's about 80 - 90 kilometres away - and is the mountain peak that looms and towers over Ladismith .

This shot is a bit hazy , but after a couple of hours , with the setting sun last rays on it , and zooming in a bit , here it is again :

Beautiful ? No wonder they call it Towerkop - meaning Magic-head
