A very interesting building - 8 Spruce Street, designed by Frank Gehry.

This is Trinity Church which is very close to where the world trade centre towers once stood. The church was undamaged and was where firemen and civilians took refuge from smoke and debris during the 9/11 attacks.

One World Trade Center stands on the site of the original 6 World Trade Centre. It is the tallest skyscraper in the Western Hemisphere at 541m, and the fourth-tallest in the world. The building is 104 standard floors high, but the tower has only 94 actual stories. It became the tallest structure in New York City on April 30, 2012, when it surpassed the height of the Empire State Building.

My first view of Lady Liberty from the financial district.

I got off the bus here and walked down to South Street Seaport so I could catch the boat to the statue. I just missed this one so had to wait about half an hour for the next one. Brooklyn Heights is in the background.

I must say that while sitting at the pier I would have loved someone to share this all with but I did find some birdies!

Finally the boat arrived and we set off. First up on our left was Governors Island. It's a 172-acre island in Upper New York Bay, about 730 m from the southern tip of Manhattan Island. The Native Americans referred to the island as Paggank (nut island) after the island's plentiful hickory, oak, and chestnut trees. It was renamed Governors Island in 1784 when the colonial assembly reserved the island for the exclusive use of New York's royal governors.

The Verrazano–Narrows Bridge is a double-decked suspension bridge that connects the New York City boroughs of Staten Island and Brooklyn. The bridge is named after the Florentine explorer Giovanni da Verrazzano, who was the first European to enter New York Harbor and the Hudson River. It has a central span of 1,298 m and was the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time of its completion in 1964, until it was surpassed by 366 feet by the Humber Bridge in the United Kingdom in 1981. It has the eleventh longest main span in the world, while retaining its place as the longest bridge span in the Americas.

Manhattan Skyline from the Hudson River. The original north tower of the World Trade Centre stood almost where World Trade Centre 1 now stands, while the south tower would have been to the right.
