I remember that seeing Saint Patrick was like returning to normal. A normal church in the middle of all the futuristic stuff O** (Remember this was many years ago and I have never felt like going back to New York).

Our first museum of the day was MoMA - Museum of Modern Art. Some say it is the most influential museum of modern art in the world and with more than 150 000 individual pieces, considered by many to have the best collection of modern Western masterpieces in the world!

The Brat and Marilyn (by Andy Warhol)

Image

Contemplating Soup Cans! (also Warhol)

But is is art? O** (Jackson Pollock)

Image

This is Salvador Dali's "Persistence of Memory". I couldn't believe how small it was - not much bigger than a postcard!

Image

And, the star of the show, Van Gogh's Starry Night!! O/\ I've always loved this painting and to see it "in the flesh" was awesome! O:V The paint is applied so thickly and you get a strong urge to touch it, but there are plenty of guards watching your every move! O-/

Image

We spent over 3 hours in the museum, oohing and aahing over Picasso, Matisse, Cezanne, Monet, Gauguin and Klimt, to name just a few! ;-)

Not far from MoMA is the Rockefeller Centre. The main building is the Art Deco 70 storey GE Building (or 30 Rock) which is the headquarters of NBC and is where shows like The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and Saturday Night Live are filmed. Visitors can go up to the "Top of the Rock" for views of New York.

Image

Prometheus by Paul Manship is in the sunken plaza in front of 30 Rock, and this is where the outdoor skating rink is opened during winter. The Brat had been there 3 days before with the school and the ice rink was still operating. On the day we went the ice rink had been dismantled already.

Image

There is an underground concourse which has restaurants and shops and after a busy morning it was the perfect time for a delicious Frappaccino from Starbucks! ;-) Most restaurants and shops in NY have free wifi, so this is where you upload your pics taken during the morning! lol

Image

There is also access to the NY Subway and this is where we caught our first underground train in NY. O:V Trying to work out which train to catch at which platform was quite confusing at first, but we soon worked out that you just have to know if you're heading uptown or downtown and then it's quite easy. ;-)

Lis, I found I was looking for the "old stuff" and went into as many of the churches that we could, but they still seemed out of place to me. -O-

That was what I intended. They kind of do not belong.

I see that we have the same taste when it comes to 1900 art ;-)

That painting is the inspiration for the song "Starry Night"...quite haunting, and we use it as a poem! \O

I sometimes wonder if they put up the real paintings in these public galleries? --00--

These New Yorkans are a busy bunch!

Phew, quite a bit of catching up to do here! And I'm a tad green about the marvellous weather you had that grant you brilliant photos outside.
I'm still enjoying going back to all those place in my memory even though I don't think I'll ever make it to New York again. One of the reasons
being that busy Time Square where you have to be so careful to set your foot right in order not to run someone else over 0*\ But Sunday morning
is surprisingly quiet - at least in your photo. lol

And the first three photos in the Museum of Arts are art themselves, I reckon! ^Q^ ^Q^ ^Q^
