This elephant must have escaped from a circus with all the things it can do

Thank you, Dewi!

Never knew that, fascinating indeed! \O :ty:

I wonder, though, if the presence of another bull, as clearly evidenced in pics 2 and 3, may influence the elephant in question's RIGHT ear movement, assuming it is left-handed, so to speak? Never saw that, and will forward to experts on the "interesting animal behaviour" thread! \O

Will try to load zoomed pics! -O-

Agreed RP. They "talk" to each other with their ears (but don't often listen). I'll check out my elephant behaviour book and see what it says. \O

If we don't want RP to carry one, we must talk lots of nonsense here...

If we want him to show us more, we need to shut up...

Interesting snippets of information I read after you mentioning they were communicating by ear RP.

Tha ancient Greeks first postulated the hypothesis that they could talk with their ears, but it was not unti Hannibal trained them to carry his army over the Alps that a system of signalling was set up to enable hig generals to communicate over distances. A sort of early version of semiphore if you like.

Generals at the foot of a pass or valley could now message each other almost instantly and warnings of attack passed quickly so that reinforcements could be rushed to their aid.

It is known that Hannibal used a mixture of both African & Indian Elephants to carry his men over the high mountain passes.

What is not known is, if the two species understood eoach other? -O-
