Away from the dust, we were elated to find a good spot for White-tailed Shrikes. They were in the same area everytime we drove by. They were a bit timid though and would not let us get too close. They are active little birds, hopping along in search of food and never stayed still for an instant.

It's a Lanioturdus torquatus RP. A Namibian near-endemic (with some also in Western Angola), so you won't get them down there in your back garden. :no:

Great little birds. Kept us entertained with their antics for ages. O/\

Also known as Chatshrikes. They hop about everywhere and stand up tall.

This species was first discovered by James Edward Alexander (The one who campaigned for Cleopatra's needle to be placed on the Thames embankment). Alexander bay at the mouth of the Orange River is named after him. \O
