Re: Camping with Petronella ; KTP May 2016
Thanks everyone
We tried to spot them again by driving the loop road around Melkvlei, but they had settled for the day, so we turned around and headed off to Kij Kij and the lower dune road.
People always say that there is nothing to see on the dune roads, and tend to speed over them in order to get to the next productive riverbed.
This was pretty evident by the state of the road today.
Jock straps and sport bras stuff
That being said we had some stunning sightings , including this tree on a dune
(That’s me being really optimistic) No, actually I really liked the picture

A herd of Gemsbok, including the sweetest little baby.
How often do you get to see baby gemsboks?

A Kalahari Chicken

And a stunning sighting of a Secretary Bird

It is a lovely tree and a photo even better, Gavin
You are right, the gemsbok babies are not seen very often

Re: Camping with Petronella ; KTP May 2016
The wind picks up AGAIN!!!
Once we got onto the Auob River, we turned left and after a short stop at Auchterlonie we set off to Twee Rivieren
We came upon these ground squirrels with really bad sense of planning, having built their burrow right in the middle of the road.

A bit further on, we spotted these wildies on a mission.
They often seem to be determined to get somewhere in a hurry, but I am not too sure if they know exactly where

We stopped at Twee Rivieren, and I was excited that the petrol station was still functioning. They were waiting for a part to come before they could start renovations. We filled up the bakkie and carried on to Rooiputs
This Martial eagle posed nicely for us before we got back to camp.

The wind by now was terrible, so we spent about half an hour in camp checking that all our possessions were still secure and not somewhere between Rooiputs and Upington, before seeking refuge in the car once again.
At the natural waterhole at Kij Kij Debbie captured this tawny eagle taking off

The rest of the drive was fairly quiet (Besides the wind)
These gemsbok were on the side of the road near Rooiputs.

Supper that night was crackers, cheese and gherkins, along with more wine to help with the sense of humour failure which was now starting to set in, in a big way.
