Re: Frost, Fires & Family Time
It was our last full day in the park, and to try and appease D's need for BEFs we hit the Ubejane loop area at first light. Unfortunately there was again no sign of any
At least it gives us a good reason to head back again sometime
The early morning was very quiet and cold. Our first sighting was some kind of fluffed up raptor which I've been struggling to identify... possibly a gabar goshawk in dark morph
Not a great pic as it was too dark and it disappeared quickly

As the sun rose we started to see some more regulars around including RP

The lack of activity around Ubejane pushed us up the link road and as we approached Rooiplaat the herd animals were out in force which was great to see

Everything seemed very peaceful, but just after joining the Rooiplaat loop some shapes caught our attention. For a moment we couldn't quite work out what we were seeing because of the way they were blending in so well, but there in front of us were the 2 male lions strolling along

I was really surprised because they had moved right up to the north of the park so I wasn't expecting to see them again on this trip.

They continued moving along with various other animals watching them from a distance

At one point they got close to some springbok, but they didn't seem interested in giving any kind of chase and the boks bolted once they realised what was going on

The lions were moving further away from the road, so we decided to take a chance and head round the other side of the loop in the hope that they might cross the road on that side...
TBC
