Interesting... is a very nice way to describe Umgeni =O:

But wow! your luck didn't seem to run out at all  Cheetahs again as well as another aardwolf, lion again and an eland that doesn't run off. Can it get any better?
I don't think so. :-0

Terrible road 0*\

Amazing sunset

What did S see? O-/
Well... S initially blurted out something about impala and eland which was something of a running joke... her mind wasn't quite functioning at the time ^0^ =O:

Can it get any better? I'll let you decide Mel ;-)

Ja it does look normal. I took the pics at the bottom of any more "interesting" sections so I think the trickier parts weren't in view. Anyway, if you've got a 4x4 it's probably terribly easy but we have a 4x2 0' lol

Are you planning a trip H.e? I must say our animal sightings were quite extraordinary during this trip... many people must visit the park and see nothing more than blesbok & zebra 0:
Still, the views are awesome \O

Screeching to a halt, S had been mumbling something about eland and really not making any sense. I think in her excitement she remembered where we had seen some eland earlier in the day and suddenly they were replaced by this apparition

Image

Except we weren't dreaming... she really was just sitting there about 100m from us - much closer than the males had been on the other side O/\ O/\ O\/ O\/

The kids soon spotted the other lioness a bit further back in the long grass ^Q^ ^Q^

Image

It was getting late already and the sun had gone down, so we set ourselves a cut-off time that we felt was good enough to make it back to camp in time for gate closing and did our best with high iso settings on the cameras. Best of all it was only us at the sighting \O

Before long the lionesses started coming closer O\/ O\/

Image

Image

There was a herd of zebra the other side of our car and it appeared that these 2 were very much in hunting mode O:V

Image

Image

Image

The intent in their eyes was incredible
But after a bit of stalking they decided to rest again for a while

Image

Image

There was some yawning

Image

Image

As well as what appeared to be some star-gazing lol

Image

The posing continued O:V

Image

Image

They were soon up again and with the rather menacing look in their eyes we felt we needed to wind the car windows up which I think was a good thing. One of the lionesses came circling around our car several times and then went off on an unsuccessful zebra chase. The other then came along and repeated the stalking of our car at which point it was time for us to leave. As we started moving the kids started shouting about a lion chasing us... sure enough in the mirrors I had a lion bounding along behind me :-? 0:
I decided the best policy was to stop which totally confused the lioness, so then she wandered off to find her friend. As one of them was looking longingly down at the zebra that had got away it made for my favourite photo of the entire trip O:V O:V :-0

Image

There was massive excitement in the car on the way back about being chased by lions. Did they think we were an overgrown zebra missing its stripes or something? -O-

We made it back to camp just in time and there was more excitement when looking back at the photos from the evening. The very low light levels had meant that it was only really possible to get decent images when the lionesses weren't moving, but even so it was possible to see some tell-tale marks on the collared lioness in a couple of the pics....

Image

We can't say for sure, but having watched the lionesses in Addo so closely over the years I'm 99% certain that this one has a litter of newborn cubs hidden away somewhere - the dark circles around her teats are a dead giveaway O:V \O :-0
